Mosquito Control Virtual Conference

10 Cryptic Mosquito Breeding Sites
Mosquito control efforts often focus on obvious standing water, but some of the most productive breeding sites are the ones hiding in plain sight. This session explores 10 cryptic mosquito breeding sites that are frequently missed during inspections but that can produce large numbers of mosquitoes in a short time. Dr. Stan Cope of Rose Pest Solutions will examine why these hidden water sources are commonly overlooked, how they contribute to explosive local mosquito populations, and the serious public health implications that can follow, including Zika, dengue, and West Nile virus. By learning how to identify and eliminate these concealed habitats, attendees will understand how targeting mosquito larvae at the source can dramatically reduce adult mosquito populations, lower biting pressure, and decrease the risk of disease transmission.

Beyond the Bite: Building Smarter Integrated Mosquito Management Programs
Mosquito control is about more than knocking down adults; it’s about breaking the breeding cycle. In this session, Rentokil's Sydney Crawley will explore how effective Integrated Mosquito Management (IMM) programs reduce overall reproductive success while targeting adult populations for meaningful, long-term control. Crawley will review the behavior and biology of commonly encountered North American mosquito species as well as mosquito imposter insects such as crane flies and dixid midges. She’ll also discuss why customer cooperation is essential, how to identify and manage key breeding sites, and what it takes to implement IPM strategies that deliver lasting results. This discussion will provide a practical framework for sustainable mosquito management when applied consistently and thoughtfully.
